This volume collects more than 60 key primary documents (all in the public domain) that reflect concerns and attitudes between 1965 and 2008 on issues such as sex education, birth control, gay rights, and the changing norms of sexual partnerships. Documents include Supreme Court rulings, selected text of representative laws, congressional testimony, and transcripts of press conferences and speeches by political figures. Each thematic chapter includes a historical overview, explanatory commentary on the documents, and a bibliography of print and online sources. The commentary helps readers understand concepts such as covenant marriage and intersexuality. Enlightening sidebars reveal the positions of liberal and conservative factions on various issues as well as stances from other countries for comparative purposes. It is interesting, for example, to note that the Republic of South Africa established same-sex marriage in 2006, joining Canada and many countries in western Europe in protecting sexual orientation against discrimination. If you are not sure whether it is appropriate to cite social media or personal communications in your assessment, seek clarification from your teachers in your unit. Footnotes If the post is lengthy, you may provide details about the paragraph or section heading. Is it acceptable to cite social media for an assessment in this unit. Posts from private social media accounts should be treated as Personal communications. All the following examples are public social media posts. Provide the: author name (which may be a username) text from the beginning of the post full date of the post full URL and the date accessed.
