You can also use your answering system to record a conversation, leave a voice memo message, or announce a special outgoing message to callers when you're away from your phone. You have three record time options.You can set the ring time to answer after two, four, or six rings. If you enable the Toll Saver, the answering system picks up after two rings if you have new messages and after four rings if there are none. The following message is pre-recorded: “Hello, no one is available to take your call. Please leave a message after the tone.” Record a Personal Outgoing Message Record Greeting allows you to record a personal outgoing message (greeting) which the answering system automatically plays when you receive a call. Then press greeting again while the outgoing message is played. This switches between the prerecorded greeting and the personal greeting. After finishing playing back the message, a confirmation tone is heard. The time and day that each message was received is announced after the message is played. The message counter will then display the number of current stored messages. To quickly scroll through a message, press and hold 3) Press standby. The rin ger ton e will return to th e previ ous setting startin g with the next incoming call. If the an swering system is off an d press do not disturb, the answering system w ill be automati cally turned on.T o c anc el mu ti ng, pre ss mu te again. T one Dialing Switch-over If your teleph one compan y requir es pulse diali ng, you can switch over to ton e dialin g after the call conn ects. This feature is useful when you need ton e dialing to use any automated men u systems, such as telephon e bank tellers, teleph one pr escription r efills, customer supp ort men us, etc. If your ph one is set to pulse dialin g mod e, mak e your call norm ally. An y digits you enter fr om then on will be sent as tone di gits. When this particular call en ds, th e phon e automati cally retu rns to pulse di aling mod e. Traveling Out of Range Durin g a call, as you begin to move your han dset too far fr om your base u nit, noise may i ncrea se.Conferencing Up to thr ee people can parti cipate in a conference call usin g an outside lin e, the han dset, and the base. Joining a Confer ence Call Y ou can easily join a call alr eady in pr ogress. From the base 1) While in talk m ode with th e handset, press (speaker) on the ba se or pick up th e cord ed handset fr om the base to join the c onferen ce call. 2) T o hang up, press (speaker) or return the corded han dset to the base. The handset will st ill be co nnected to th e call.An in tercom tone sounds. Making an Intercom P age While the Line is on Hold Y ou can mak e an inter com call while an outsi de calle r is on hold; ma king an in tercom call will not terminate th e call on hold.Y o u can store up to 10 numbers in the base and up to 10 numbers in the handset. Y ou can dial th ese numbers with just a few k ey presses. The speed di al mem ory is not limited to ph one numbers. Y ou can sto re an y number (up to 20 digits) that you n eed to enter once your call conn ects. This is r eferred to as Chain Dialin g. For ex ample, you can s ave your bank account number to speed di al mem ory. When you call your bank's telephon e teller service and ar e prompted to enter your accoun t number, simply press memory ( mem on the base) an d the speed dial n umber wher e you stored your account n umb er. Storing Names and Numbers in Speed Dial Memory 1) With th e phone in standby m ode, press memory ( mem on the base). 2) En ter 0-9 to select the speed di al number wh ere you would lik e to store this entry. When editin g the speed dial memor y, yo u mus t press a k ey within 30 seconds or th e phon e will return to stan dby mode.Then enter the corr ect c haracter. Otherwise the n ext time you pr ess the number ke y, it chang es the char acter that was pr eviously set.The cursor flashes indicatin g that the display is rea dy fo r the num be r t o b e e nte red. 6) Use th e keypad to e nter th e phon e numb er; each n umber can be up to 20 digits. Y ou can enter m ultiple pauses to i ncrease the d elay. Each pause coun ts as a digit. Y ou will h ear a confirm ation ton e, and th e fo llowing scr een appears. Mem ory storag e is complete. After about 2 secon ds, the fol lowing scr een displays all the speed di al mem ory entri es.Y ou hear a confirm ation ton e, and th e numb er is stored in mem ory. The display return s to the Caller ID data. Y ou can not store a Caller ID mes sage if n o phon e number appears in the m essage.Making Calls from Speed Dial Memory 1) Pr ess memory ( mem on the base). Then the displayed numb er is dia led. Th e phon e return s to standby m ode. Also, if th e phon e is idle (e.g., no key is pr essed) for 30 secon ds, th e phon e return s to standby m ode.T he Call er ID data s tores informati on for up to 50 incoming calls - ev en unan swered calls. With Ca ller ID on Call W aiting (CIDCW), you will hear a Call W aiting tone while you are on a call, and the Caller ID dat a is displayed. Ad diti onally, you can di al a n umber stored in th e Caller ID list or s ave d ata to your Memo r y d ial l is t. When the T elephone Rings When th e Caller ID data is received, each th e handset and base sh ows the caller’s phon e number along with the d a te and tim e. The in comi n g call informati on is stored in the Caller ID r ecord on both th e handset an d base. If the Caller ID serv ice in cludes the caller’s n ame, the caller’s n ame appears on the display (up to 15 letters).Once you vi ew the n ew data, the n umber will be cleare d. note CALLER ID Caller ID data can also be d eleted man ually.The displayed phone n umber dials automatically. Y ou cannot mak e a call from the Calle r ID list if your cordless phon e is connected to a private br anch ex change (PBX). CALLER ID Setting the Message Alert On or Off Mess age Alert sounds an alert tone wh en you have an unheard m essage. If you set the Mess age Alert on, when ever a new messag e is received, th e soft alert tone will soun d every 15 seconds.Please leave a messag e after the tone.” Recor d a P ersonal Outgoing Message Record Gr eeting allows you to record a personal outg oing mess age (greetin g) which the answerin g system automatically plays wh en you receive a call. 1) Pr ess greeting. While the pr e-recor ded mess age is playing, press and h old greeting again. Y ou hear the announ cement “Record gr eeting” and a confirmati on tone. If your own gr eeting has alr eady been recor ded, delete th e curren t messag e and then r ecord a n ew greeting again. While the curr ent personal outgoing m essage is playing, pr ess delete. And th en start over with the first. 2) S tart recor ding your mess age. The s ystem announ ces “Greetin g has been del et ed. ” note THE INTEGRA TED ANSWERING DEVICE This switches between the prer ecorded gr eeting and the person al greetin g. After finishing playin g back the mess age, a confirmati on tone is he ard. Announce only feature The announce only feature plays a pre-recor ded outg oing m essage or your own personal outgoin g mess age, but it will not allow th e caller to leave a messag e. T o set announce only, follow th e steps on “Setting th e Record Time” page 39. If you want to use yo ur own greetin g and you wan t to change your gr eeting to omit the pr ompt to leave a messag e, refer to “Selectin g Y our Greetin g” above. The f ollowin g mess age is p re-r ecord ed: “Hell o, no on e is available to take your call. Please call a gain.” Using Y our Answering System The m essag e counte r displays the n umber of m essag es stored in mem ory. If the m essag e LED flash es, th en the re ar e new m essag es waitin g for you. The an swering system is desi gned to play your n ew mess ages first. Aft er you play all your n ew mess ages, you can th en play your old m essag es.The tim e and d ay that each mess age was r eceived is announced after the m essage is played. On ce you have li stened to a new m essa ge, it then beco mes an old m essag e. Th e old m essag es will be played in th e ord er in whi ch the y were r eceived. The m essage counter shows th e number of m essages stored in mem ory.Deleting a message T o mai nta in maxi mum rec ord t ime, del et e the ol d mes sage s. Whe n y ou p res s delete, you are perman ently d eleting the mess age. After th e announ cemen t “T o delete all mess ages, press d elete again,” pr ess delete again. When you try to d elete all messages with ou t first listening to your new m essages, you hea r several sh ort beeps foll owed by an announ cement “Pl ease playback all m essag es.” This pr otects you from accide ntally er asing m e ss ages you have not yet r eviewed.T o adjust the volume, press the volume up or down k ey. If yo u turn the an swering sy stem o ff, you cannot screen a call. 2) T o answer th e call, pi ck up the cor ded han dset or pr ess (speaker) on the base. T o cancel the Call Screen, press end or r eturn the han dset to the cr adle. See “Settin g the Call Screen“ on page 39.When usin g any tou c h-ton e telephon e, you can even record a n ew greeting mess age. Remote access with any touch-tone telephone Y ou can o perate your an swering system from a rem ote location using any tou ch-tone teleph one. 1) Call your telephone number. 2) Durin g the greetin g messag e, press 0 an d enter your PIN cod e (see page 41). 3) Th e answering system announ ces the curr ent time an d the number o f mess ages stored in m emory. Then you hear “T o play incomin g messag es, pr ess zero two. For he lp, press on e zer o.” 4) Y ou may con tinue to liste n to the voi ce prompts, or you ma y select a comman d from the chart on the n ext pag e: For your convenie nce rem ote operati on cards are pr ovid ed for you to use while away fr om hom e (located on page 62). Once you en ter the remot e a cce ss menu, you must en ter a comman d within 15 seconds, or the answerin g system automati cally hangs up and r eturns to stan dby.Y ou may enter an other comman d at this time fr om the chart. 6) Wh en you are finished, hang up to exit th e system. The answerin g system automati cally return s to standby.The answering system announ ces the number of m essag es stored in memory. Y ou hear “T o pl ay incomin g messag es, press zer o two. For he lp, press on e zer o.” 4) Pr ess 0 th en 6 to turn the an swering system on. Y ou hear the outgoin g messag e and a confirmati on tone. 5) H ang up th e phon e; subsequen t calls will be an swered by the system. Remote An sweringMachine op eration appears on th e display. The an swering system announ ces the curren t time an d the number o f messag es stored in the m emory. 2) Y o u hear “T o play incoming m essage, press two. For help, press zero” f ollow ed by intermitten t beeps.Y ou may enter anoth er command at this time fr om the chart above. 5) Wh en you are finished, press end to e xit the system.Low battery alert When th e battery pack is very low and n eeds to be charge d, the han dset is progr ammed to eliminate functi ons in or de r to s ave power. If the handset is n ot in use, Low Batt ey appears on the handset LCD and none o f the handset k eys will operate. If the ph one is in use, Low Battery flash es and th e handse t beeps. Compl ete your convers ation as qui ckly as possible an d retu rn the handset to th e cradle for char ging. Informati on stored in the phon e's memory will be retained f or 30 minutes after the battery pack is rem oved. This includ es earpiece volume, ringer tone an d volume and last number dialed. Even wh en the battery pack is n ot bein g used, it will gr adu ally dischar ge over a long peri od of tim e. For optimum perf orman ce, be sure to r eturn th e handset to th e cradle after a telephon e call. Battery replace ment and handling When the oper ating time becom es short e ven after a ba ttery is r echarg ed, please r eplace the battery. With norm al usage, your ba ttery should last about one year. A replacement battery m ay be purchased by calling Unid en's Parts De partmen t (see back cover page).Dampen a cloth with pla in water. Gently rub the d amp cloth over the cha rgin g contacts until all visi ble dirt is r emoved. Dry the contacts th oroughly bef ore r eturning th e handset to the cr adle. Caution Do not use pain t thinner, benzene, alcohol, or oth er chemical produ cts. Doing so m ay discolor the surf ace of the telephone and damag e the finish.When the oper ating time becom es shor t, even after the battery is r ech arged, please replace th e battery. With norm al usage, the batter y should last abou t one year. A replac emen t Uni den ad apter or battery may be pur chased by callin g Uni den's P arts Department (see back cover page). Specifi cation s, features, and avai lability of opti onal accessori es are all subject to chan ge wi thout pri or not ic e. ADDITIONAL INFORMA TION If it cannot, you may have to use anoth er phon e to access your phon e. Symptom Suggestion TROUBLESHOOTING Case Act ion If the han dset or base is e xposed to moistur e or liquid, but only affects th e exterior plastic housin g. Wipe off th e liquid, and use as norm al. If moistur e or liquid has enter ed the plastic h ousing (i.e., liquid can be hea rd in the p hone or liquid has en tered th e handset battery compart ment or ven t openings on the base). Handset: 1)Remove th e battery cover and leave it off f or ventilation. 2)Remove the battery pa ck by disconnectin g. 3)Leave the battery cover o ff and the battery pack disconnected fo r at least 3 days. 4)Once th e handset is completely dry, reconnect th e battery pack and the battery cover. 5)Recharg e the han dset's battery pack for 20 h ours befor e using again. Base: 1)Disconnect th e AC adapter fr om the base unit, cutting o ff electrical power. 2)Disconnect the telephone cord fr om the base un it. 3)Let d ry for at least 3 days. IMPORT ANT: Yo u mu st unpl ug the telephone line while rechar ging the battery pack to avoid char ge inte rruption. CAUTION: DO NO T use a micr owave oven to speed up th e drying pr ocess. This will cause perm anen t dam age to th e handset, base and th e micr owave oven. After followin g these steps, if your cordless teleph one d oes not work, please call our Customer Service H otline at 1-800 -297-1023.To r educe the risk of fire, electrical shock, or damage to the unit, DO NO T expose this unit to rain or moisture. Y ou may also contact yo ur local r ecycling ce nter for informat ion on wh ere to return the used ba ttery. Pleas e call 1-800-8- BATTERY for information on Ni-Cd battery recycling in your area. Do not open or mutilate the battery pack. Re leased electrolyte is corrosi ve and m ay cause dam age to th e eyes or ski n. It may be toxic i f swallowed. 4. Exercise care in handling the battery in order not to short the battery with conducting materials such as rings, bracelets, and keys. The battery or conduct or may overh eat and c ause burns. 5. Charge the ba ttery pack provi ded with or i dentifi ed for use wi th this product only in accordance with the instructions and limitat ions specified in the owners manual pr ovided for this product. 6. Observe proper polar ity orienta tion between th e battery pack an d battery charger. 7.
