Since hearing damage from loud sounds is often undetectable until it is too late, YAMAHA and the Electronic Industries Association’s Consumer Electronics Group recommend you to avoid prolonged exposure from excessive volume levels. YAMAHA will not be held responsible for any damage resulting from use of this unit with a voltage other than specified. Most of the sound field programs are precise digital recreations of actual acoustic environments found in famous concert halls, music venues and movie theaters. This program clearly reproduces dialog and sound effects, thus creating a broad and expansive cinematic space amid silence. I have fixed the mechanism of this unit, replaced the capstan motor (bad quality shreeking one with a better one), replaced the belts and works perfectly fine. Perfect audio, everything works great. However after testing it many times I reassembled the unit and did another test. Some tick noise is present in the audio. The tick noise is present when executing a function, for example REW (most worse of all), FF or PLAY (only a few spikes randomly), also when using the remote. It is not a problem of the mechanism (motor) or a ground issue or something like that, disconnected it and problem still exists. Maybe it has something to do with static electricity because I have used the unit without HEAD cables attached to the mainboard (head input pins floating) however the pre-amplification circuit is working fine except of the noise. There are two IC's in this circuit, UPC1330HA head selector and a LA3161 pre-amplifier. The LA3161 is a 2-channel preamplifier that has a circuit to reject ripple. Is it possible this IC is damaged (because of a (static) spike) and because of that the ripple rejection is no longer working. When I replace this IC the problem is solved. Any ideas or do have some people any experience with this or recognize the sound behaviour discription. Anyone who can point me into the right direction. Many thanks for any reply. My YSP-1100 is dead but it's not the C515 problem. The condensator is still fine. The problem is that I can hear the relay going click and after approx 2 seconds going clack. According to the service manual it could be the amp protection kicking in. But that would mean that I should be able to override it by entering the diagnostic menu by long pressing both volume key. But the display remains just blank - it just goes click - clack. Having a more specific look at the schematics and the PCB components I think that IC501 or IC503 (opcto copplers) in the standby path might be blown - they have a slight darkish spot on the housing. I will check them tonight. Otherwise I have to borrough an ossiloscope form a friend as I have the bad feeling that the RESET or PDOWN path is involved. Does someone know if the PDOWN on INT 5 of the microprocessor is high or low active. Having a look at the schematics PDOWN should be high during normal operation - can someone confirm. There's no voltage mentioned in the schematics. On the YSP-900 service manual I can find 10.4 Volts which seems to be a bit high for the microprocessor - I'm gettiing 3.xx on the PDOWN line on my multimeter Would it be wise to disconnect the RESET line and put PDOWN directly on 3.3 Volts to be sure that they are constant. RESET and PDOWN seem to be the only valid cause for not being able to get into diag mode. The microprocessor incl. Open for any additional idea. Daniel Having fixed my YSP600 by replacing C515 with a 400V item, this surprisingly failed after just a couple of years. Now replaced with a 630VAC item which has lasted so far. All those screws again. My first Yamaha however is an original YSP1 which must have soldiered on for at least 12 years. But in the end it succumbed, randomly emitting crackly white noise (unaffected by volume or mute) at ear-splitting volume. Turns out the YSP1 is much more approachable than the YSP600 with the two PCBs of the power supply mounted on the inside of a detachable rear panel. Only 22 screws, a firm pull and it's off. Here's a guide to removing the rear unit, the location of C73, and showing how the rear unit can be hinged over to reveal C73 without releasing connectors CB7, CB10 and CB14. View attachment 862721 View attachment 862719 View attachment 862720 View attachment 862718 I'll update when I'm finished replacing this C73 Capacitor. Heavy as all get out. After looking at the boards for anything obvious, nothing was apparent. Measuring the voltages I noticed that the 5v, 15v and -24v lines were good. The 3.3v line was only reading 3.0v however. Maybe not enough to power some of the DSP or other computer chips. Just a guess without the schematics. The soundbar was popping sometimes, other times squealing like a stuck pig. No volume control at all and definitely no real wanted audio. I found that some folks were referencing the C73 capacitor here. Replacement is super easy even for the novices. After that powering it up for the first time, no pops or squealing, just clean audio. 'tis a beauty for the ear to behold. First time ever to desolder anything. I was able to solder the wire of a dreamcast controller though. That's the only practice I took beforehand. Did okay job with one leg of the capacitor but the other not so much - bad soldering and desoldering. Wasn't able to get old tin to melt with an old tip and needed to buy a new one. In hindsight, I probably should have waited a bit longer for the old tip to heat up before trying to desolder and also add some new tin to the tip. Changed C515 to POLKO 22nF 1000V R15. Purchased the capacitor from Finnish shop Partco. I was lucky to get a capacitor with very long legs. Needed to only shorten the legs after soldering was done. Advice: always shorten the legs of a cap before soldering. In the first hours alive the relay clicked (off and back on) about 5 times after the fix making sound to disappear for approximately 3 seconds each time. The problem went away though. I'm just wondering what was causing this because after the first day there has been no issues with the device (it's been 2 weeks since fix). The system needed time to adjust to a new balance or the new cap needed time to work properly? I suggest to use your finger and a flat head screwdriver instead. Thanks to contributors for making my day and also being such awesome dudes! You said, on last december, that you owned an yrs-2000 with that powering pb. I have this pb too, now, on my yrs-2000. Did you manage to fix it? (And, if you did, how did you proceed?) Thx for the answer Arns You can remove it easily. You just have to pull it up from one side. Once removed, you'll have a dozen screws to remove to get to the power supply set. Arns Once I managed to get to the power circuit board (seriously, how many screws!) I had the same capacitor fade issue affecting my now ancient YSP-600 but ?3.88 for 5 capacitors ( Stock number 6224959 ) from RS Components and a bit of desoldering know-how and my unit is resurrected and working as before. If anything, the power on relay is quieter than before. Missed a couple deep in the innards somewhere and one of the deep screws that I could only barely remove as I didn't have a long-reach philips to hand and didn't fancy a trip to the garage with a mountain of stuff to clamber over. Highly recommend having the service manual to hand doing it though as it helps with what order to attack the multitude of screws. Yamaha YSP-600 Service manual I got 2 minutes of success after changing the capacitor. So pleased with myself that I went to tell my wife the great news, but when I came back the unit was off, and no power. Fortunately I had a witness that it had worked. Wondering if my clumsy soldering might have come undone after a (very) short period in use. Or damaged the circuit board. Any suggestions? I have now tested the printed connection at all combinations of the 3 soldered connections and there is continuity. I also put a continuity test on those of them that were linked (solder to solder) and got continuity, but I realise this is a partial test. To redo them will need a smaller soldering iron than I have, so is not for now. I am at a loss to think how the new capacitor could make it work, but then cause something else to fail 2 minutes later. Although it is clearly making a connection I might try to tidy up the poorer looking soldering I did on one connector, in case it is inferior and a problem in some way. Higher current required than the test proves. Checked the fuses, so now will hope that the mains connector was not clicked in fully, and try once more. More in hope than confidence. I really do miss the wonderful sound, and even more so now I have had 2 minutes of it again. Both work but not together Any Ideas.
