Beck 4.0 out of 5 stars This book has proven to be very helpful when working on my 2008 A4, finding fluid capacities, torque numbers, and detailed procedures to remove different items. However, I think a revision would be beneficial after so many years. This book covers two generations of A4, the B6 chassis and B7 chassis. They're very similar but have slight differences, and sometimes it seems the book jumps between the two or focus on the B6 series. I believe one example that's missed is that the cooling system in the B6 has two temperature sensors while the B7 only has 1, but this isn't addressed in the book. I will have to confirm this but I believe it also recommends 5w-30 oil which may have been used for the B6, but my B7 uses 5w-40. The layout is also confusing because the index refers to page number, I.E. 12-10 is the tenth page of section 12, while each section labels them in order, I.E. 12-10 is the tenth topic in section 12. These two usually aren't the same. Overall, satisfied with this book and the information it contains, but it feels like an unfinished final draft where it could be run through with a fine-tooth comb.My intention for this was to extend the life of my 2008 A4 without breaking the bank. I also purchased a cheap WiFi reader (still on its way) so I can read the computer codes. If it’s simple like an air filter. I’ll surely replace. Anything major I do not intend to replace. This book also has the maintenance information that’s helpful. What is super nice is you can see how many parts you need to remove for a particular service item. So if you bring it to a mechanic you can tell if they are pulling your leg for some items. For example if you need to replace something on the motor most items do not require you to pull the motor.http://www.mybyblos.com/userfiles/eureka-whirlwind-big-cup-vacuum-manual.xml However if a gasket need replacing. You may need to pull the entire motor. Knowing what is involved can help you question the validity of labor. Parts in general for this car are expensive (even when they are in large supply). Mostly because Audi parts are always expensive. It does not cover the core issues that plague the VW and Audi world like oil leaks, oil housing gasket replacement and more. It basically gives a title or introduction level to the issue with no step by steps fix or how to. The only good thing is the picture. The pictures are actual pictures and not cartoon drawing. I personally did not like the book and will not recommend it.A true professional might benefit from these guides for specific problems on specific makes. That said, it is way over the head (and hands) of the casual service needs of this AUDI owner. I (like many other AUDI owners) love my car and am vexxed by its service needs. I have no problem handing off the real work to a real mechanic. My desire is to perform simple, regular maintenance and repairs (more like replacements). The Haynes manual has that information... and about 98 more. The language, picture quantity and layout are fine. The print quality is marginal and some photos are muddy. I'll likely only use a small fraction of the information contained herein, but what little I use will be used with confidence. Most of the information i wanted to reference kept saying it requires special tools and is recommended to be taken to a professional. Might be useful for other engines but useless for my situation. Most of the information i wanted to reference kept saying it requires special tools and is recommended to be taken to a professional. Might be useful for other engines but useless for my situation.Finaly, page quality is horrible, the print is on a kind of toilet paper texture and it really did not meet my expectations.http://superbia.lgbt/flotaganis/1656147159 Will buy another manual from another editor who i will mostly not say due to the fact it does not have anything to do with this.No frills written by someone who knows the product and expects a certain amount of ability of the reader. Yes im based in England. Truly excellent thank you. StephenI have in the past used Haynes manuals and they have been excellent to adequate -but had this been the first one i had encountered I should never have picked up another one. Apart from the lack of detail, the production is so bad, and the paper and soft cover so flimsy that I had to look inside the front cover to see if this was some half backed parallel production. Naughty Haynes - profit before substance. It was a waste of money as I had to buy another one that specified for diesel engines. Aw well, live and learn. A new Audi S4 is likely in the pipeline for 2010, so any leftover S4s may be a bargain—mostly because they're no longer the fastest luxury vehicles in their class. TheCarConnection.com's editors also drove the V-8 Audi compacts to be able to deliver our definitive opinion on the car, to compare it with other cars in the class, and to help you decide if the S4 Audi is the right car for you. But for the 2008 model year, the fastest A4s ever have arrived in the form of the S4 sedan and wagon, as well as the RS4 Cabriolet and sedan. To give it better handling over the stock A4, the S4 gets stiffer suspension settings and a lower ride height. Hydraulic power steering gives great road feel with lighter effort than some tuned sedans, and the Audi S4's braking feels natural and progressive. Review continues below S4 badges are sprinkled inside and out; sedans get a decklid spoiler, while wagons pick up aluminum roof rails. Dual exhausts and sport seats round out the discreetly handsome package. The S4 benefits from a larger rear-seat area than past Audi compacts, too. Its trunk, however, remains relatively small, with just 13.4 cubic feet of total capacity. All S4s get standard Sirius Satellite Radio and can be ordered with 18-inch wheels, an iPod integration kit, and a navigation system. It's not the fastest German compact any more, but it's one of the most balanced offerings and one of the few to sport standard all-wheel drive. The classically styled 2008 Audi S4 still looks good, though, and reviews read by TheCarConnection.com appreciate the usefulness of its more subdued looks. Strong visual cues on the Audi 2008 S4 include “aggressive front and rear bumpers that include slotted lower air vents, a revised grille and fog lights,” in the opinion of Kelley Blue Book. A bigger, more powerful engine and revised suspension tuning make the 2008 Audi S4 a supremely capable high-performance luxury car. The official EPA estimates for the 2008 Audi S4 are a bit shocking, with the manual transmission returning 13 mpg in the city and just 20 mpg on the highway, while the six-speed automatic gets 14 mpg city, 21 mpg on the open road. Real-world testing seems to bear those numbers out, as ConsumerGuide reports that their “S4 sedans averaged 16.1-18.4 mpg.” Review continues below Car and Driver notes that the “tight back seats” are one of the car’s least appealing features, while ForbesAutos echoes the sentiment, reporting that “back-seat space is at a premium.” Edmunds agrees, though they feel that Audi S4 owners with small children should have no problem sticking the tykes in back, but “adults seated back there will likely complain about a shortage of legroom.” Car and Driver calls the Audi 2008 S4 sedan suitably “practical for everyday use,” and ConsumerGuide mentions that the sedans “have a usefully roomy trunk and standard fold-down rear seatbacks.” The Audi S4 Avant wagon gets much higher marks from reviewers for its practicality. Edmunds reviewers calculate that “the Avant wagon provides up to 61 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded,” and for those who need to haul both people and cargo, Cars.com says that, with the seats in place, the Audi S4 Avant has “27.8 cubic feet of cargo room,” or “slightly more than double the sedan’s.” ConsumerGuide remarks that the “engines purr at cruise and snarl discreetly at full throttle,” and this theme appears in several reviews read by TheCarConnection.com. Car and Driver in particular feels that both the Audi S4 sedan and wagon “sound fantastic.” Review continues below The 2008 Audi S4 excels in both crash testing and safety features, and there’s little more you could ask for from this Audi 2008 edition. The NHTSA is largely impressed with the 2008 Audi S4 and has awarded it four of a possible five stars in both front impact tests, as well as their side passenger impact test. The Audi S4 also earned a perfect five-star safety rating from the NHTSA for its side driver impact protection. Furthermore, the IIHS found the Audi S4 so impressive that they awarded it one of their Top Safety Pick awards for 2008, citing its “good performance in front, side, and rear tests and standard electronic stability control.” ConsumerGuide reviewers observe that standard safety features on the 2008 Audi S4 include “dual front airbags, front side airbags,” and “curtain side airbags.” Cars.com adds that the standard “antilock brakes have electronic brake-force distribution,” and the “height-adjustable front seat belts have load limiters.” Edmunds rounds out the standard features list by reporting that “stability control” is included on all 2008 Audi S4 models, while Kelley Blue Book points out “rear side-impact airbags” are available as an optional feature. However, Audi still sees it necessary to offer a “rear-obstacle-detection system,” according to ConsumerGuide, since nobody likes to dent their car in the parking lot (or run over a loose child, for that matter). Furthermore, Cars.com points out that all Audi 2008 S4s “are prewired for either Sirius or XM Satellite Radio.” Edmunds says there is an avail-able “navigation system” for the Audi S4, though they also note it “isn’t a model of user-friendly design.” ForbesAutos expands upon the statement, commenting that “the optional navigation system” on the 2008 Audi S4 “includes Audi’s Multi-Media Interface,” which they say “can be difficult to operate and may distract drivers from the road, but it’s less annoying than similar systems offered by other European imports.” Review continues below Rate your car on Performance, Safety, Features and more. The quattro is awesome in the winter time. The. The quattro is awesome in the winter time. The handling is good, but it could use a little more steering feel. The ride is excellent and very comfortable. It's also very quiet inside. The interior is very nice. The only thing I would change would be to mount the climate controls higher up on the dash because they can be hard to see at the bottom. Overall this is the best vehicle I have ever owned. It still looks like it is a new car even though it is almost 10 years old now. It also looks like it is worth a lot more than it is. The automaker's internal numbering treats the A4 as a continuation of the Audi 80 lineage, with the initial A4 designated as the B5-series, followed by the B6, B7, B8, and the B9.Historically, the second (B6) and third generations (B7) of the A4 also included a convertible version. For the fourth generation (B8) and onwards, the convertible, along with a new coupe and 5-door liftback variant, was spun-off by Audi into a new nameplate called the Audi A5.It had a front-mounted longitudinal engine and front-wheel drive. Many variations of the A4 were also available with Audi's quattro four-wheel drive system.By 1991, an exterior design by Imre Hasanic was chosen and frozen for November 1994 production by 1992. The interior design was later finalized in 1992, with pilot production commencing in the first half of 1994.The transmission is a conventional automatic gearbox with a torque converter offering the driver a fully-automatic operation or manual selection of the gear ratios. Despite initial mechanical problems, overall build and assembly quality were lauded both by the automotive press and within Audi and Volkswagen, and at the time, parent company Volkswagen declared the B5 the company-wide build quality benchmark for all its other models. Moreover, a significant facelift was introduced for the 1998 B5 model year at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show, with sales beginning in Europe in early 1998. The 2.8-litre 30-valve V6 engine replaced the 2.8-litre 12-valve. A 2.5-litre V6 Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine with 150 PS (110 kW; 148 bhp) was standard on the Quattro. A six-speed manual gearbox was available, as well as the new high-performance Audi S4, now part of the A4 lineup (the previous S4 had been an Audi 100 ).This generation of quattro consisted of default of 50:50 front to rear dynamic torque distribution. A Bosch ESP 5.7 Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) system, with anti-lock braking system (ABS), brake assist, and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) were standard across the range. Available with four wheel drive and in the 2.5 TDI intermediate version to 163 PS (120 kW; 161 bhp). A 2.0 engine with Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) was also available. A year later, Audi reintroduced the S4, now powered by a 344 PS (253 kW; 339 bhp) 4.2 L V8 engine, as well as an A4 Cabriolet convertible variant ( Typ 8H ), finally replacing the 80 -based Audi Cabriolet which had been discontinued in 2000. It included an electro-hydraulic operated roof, which lowered in under 30 seconds and incorporated some styling changes, such as body-coloured lower bumper and sill panels, which later found their way to the saloon version. The front grille assembly changed to a tall trapezoidal shape in the same manner as the C6 (third-generation) Audi A6; however, the dashboard and interior were virtually unchanged from the B6 aside from minor detailing. These engines both use a four-valve per cylinder configuration. The prior 5-valve design was incompatible with the FSI direct injection system (due to the siting of the fuel injector, now discharging directly into the combustion chamber). The 2.0 Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine now combined Pumpe Duse (Unit Injector) (PD) technology with 16 valves, while the larger 2.5 TDI V6 diesel was superseded by a 3.0 V6 TDI, offering a 204 PS (150 kW; 201 bhp) model during the year 2005 which was upgraded to a 233 PS (171 kW; 230 bhp) model in 2006. A 2.7 V6 TDI was added later.Audi retired its 5-speed manual transmissions in favour of a new Getrag 6-speed. As before, multitronic continuously variable transmission (CVT), now with selectable 'seven-speeds', was an option on front-wheel drive models, whilst a conventional ZF 6HP 6-speed tiptronic automatic transmission was an option on the quattro four-wheel drive models. This new asymmetric center differential was initially only available on the RS4 but was added a year later on the S4. The remainder of the B7 A4 range still used the T-2 50:50 default dynamic split center diff.It was inspired by Audi's race cars of the 2004 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters and was reintroduced in 2006 as a regular option. The 2.0T FSI engine received revised software mapping to the ECU, which increased the output to 220 PS (162 kW; 217 bhp) and 300 N?m (221 lb?ft) of torque. It was available with front-wheel drive, or Quattro four-wheel drive.New on the Cabriolet was an entry-level 2.0 TDI version, which was not offered with the Multitronic CVT gearbox. It also had a power increase of 20 PS, giving an output of 220 PS on the 2.0T model.Customers could not choose directly between those two engines. They got the 8-valve version when they ordered the DPF otherwise they got the 16-valve version (BRE engine code). In many countries the DPF became standard equipment for all B7 diesel engines from model year 2006 on and the 8-valve engine was no more. In 2006 replaced by the 2.7 V6 TDI engine. The Avant was unveiled to the public at the March 2008 Geneva Motor Show. For North America's destined models, the B8 continued in production for the 2016 model year, while Europe began deliveries on the 2016 B9 model. The estimated static front:rear weight ratio of the B8 A4 is approximately 55:45, depending on body style and engine.Although the overall dimensions have increased, the curb weight has dropped some 10. The boot (trunk) has also increased to 480 litres (17.0 cu ft) for the saloon (sedan) version. The A4 Avant will have a maximum capacity of 1,430 L (50.5 cu ft) with the rear seats folded down. These changes are referenced based on the model year (MY) of the car.The additional torque bias applied to the rear wheels helps mimic the driving dynamics of rear-wheel drive cars.GoodIt features redesigned LED headlamps and taillights, front air dam with fog lamps, and closely set twin exhausts. Interior changes include Bluetooth connectivity for audio streaming (nav equipped models only) and a redesigned ignition key. Controls for air-conditioning, infotainment, and power windows gain chrome clasps. The A4 includes a radio with eight speakers as standard, while the MMI navigation system with voice dialogue is optional. Electromechanical power steering is standard. In the UK, the A4 range is offered in SE, SE Technik, Technik, S line, and Black Edition model grades. All-wheel-drive Quattro is offered in most engine and grade combinations.Model grades are Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. The Avant was discontinued, leaving the Allroad Quattro as the only station wagon body style. For the 2016 model year, the A4 and S4 continued in B8 production. The B9 A4 would not reach the North American market until the 2017 model year, while the S4 variant would not be available until the 2018 model year. The B9 is slightly larger than the outgoing B8, but Audi claims the new A4 is around 120 kg (265 lb) lighter than its predecessor.Retrieved 26 December 2010. Optional quattro all-wheel drive is a bonus for snow belt residents. Taller folks might also find the driving position somewhat confining. The package includes aggressive front and rear fascias, larger side moldings and an integrated trunk spoiler. From a driving enthusiast’s point of view, the A4’s quattro all-wheel drive and energetic turbocharged four-cylinder engine make it the nearly-ideal car, while young status seekers crave it for its upscale pedigree and reasonably affordable price. Audi even nails the little things many of its competitors overlook, such as backlighting every switch and control regardless of importance. If it weren’t for the A4’s somewhat cramped rear quarters, we’d almost be tempted to call it the perfect sedan. Fair Purchase Prices, which reflect what buyers are actually paying at dealers, shows prices hovering between MSRP and dealer invoice. As always, be sure to shop and compare using current Fair Purchase Prices. In terms of resale value (an important factor to consider when comparing vehicles), Kelley Blue Book expects the Audi A4 to hold its value better than the Volvo S40, Infiniti G35, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Saab 9-3, but to fall just short of the BMW 3 Series and Acura TL. While the automatic model was a joy on the highway — delivering a quiet, comfortable ride, inspiring stability and with plenty of power to pass — the transmission magnified the engine’s turbo lag in the stop-and-go of city driving. The manual car, on the other hand, was equally impressive on the highway while also providing more of the kick we expect from a sports sedan. When sunny skies turn to rainy weather the all-weather traction advantages of the renowned quattro all-wheel-drive system are much appreciated and, even in dry weather, we could feel its calming influence while negotiating curving on-ramps and the like. Beyond these minor points, however, we find the A4’s comfortable, stylish and well-crafted cabin nearly without fault. The textured aluminum is one of the finest examples of interior metal trim we’ve ever seen, and every surface and seam is pleasing to both the eye and the touch. If you’re looking for a nice place to spend a commute, you won’t have to look beyond the A4. And if your vision isn’t what it used to be, you might be excused for confusing the two from the rear. But only from a mile away, on a moonless night in the middle of the Black Forest, could you mistake the two models from the front. At first, we thought the Audi family’s trapezoidal big-mouth grille looked less graceful on the A4 than when we first saw it on the larger A6 and A8. But, like its big brothers, the A4 seems to embrace its identity a little more warmly every time we see it. They make life a little easier. Behind the flip-down screen you’ll find two SD memory card slots, which can be used to play MP3-formated music files through the audio system. Standard safety equipment includes a sophisticated anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control, active front head restraints and front, front-side and two-row head-curtain airbags. The V6 is the smoother and more powerful engine of the two, but the four-cylinder turbo is lighter (promoting better handling), less expensive and delivers better fuel mileage. Also available in varying combinations are front-drive and quattro all-wheel-drive systems, plus six-speed manual, six-speed Tiptronic automatic and continuously-variable transmissions. The front-drive V6 A4 comes with the automatic transmission only. My first Audi (I am a BMW guy). Got it because it was half price used compared to a similar BMW. I am having a blast driving this car. Ages extremely well. Personal opinion is the quality of materials used in the A4 series Audi is far better than BMW 3 series, and comparable to the 5. German cars need proper maintenance. So you need to educate yourself and do most of the minor maintenance tasks. NEVER go the the dealer. Hugely overpriced and very subpar quality of work. They do not even use proper oils for these vehicles. Have not had any of the problems reported by some of the other reviewers, but I do not think it is luck. I had BMWs, MBs and also had very few real issues with them. Just do not ignore any signs when something feels wrong. Fix right away and do not over maintain. Also I was surprised by how large the vehicle feels inside. Extremely well distributed cabin and trunk spaces. Feels very safe to drive too. Car is 11 years old, driven in Chicago and does not have a speck of rust or anything broken in and out. From 110k-150k it got me a lot of fun, but also a lot of headache. And at the end 150k miles it become extra expansive to maintenance, even if I already spent a lot for it. So what about A4 2006 2.0T AWD MT, when I bought it at 105k I already know, how long I can keep it, how much do I need to maintenance. Yes some staff it even extra complicated when you fix it yourself, but a lot of cars like cayenne and some v6 also double expansive, so I cant say what it very much, just need to see particularity condition of the car before you buy it. Suspension, leaks, transmission, turbo. And everybody who upgrade audi can appreciate the work what company did with it. 200hp feels like real, not a number in description. Full wheel drive make it save and comfortable. Design - yes its not another toytstyle car, even 11 years old car looks not to old. And at the end - every TFSI owners has to know the biggest minus in this engine - cam follower, what has to be changed very often, and possible can destroy your engine if you forgot about it. I really recommend to buy with 6 speed transmission, for people who want to feel sportiest in this car, and with some upgrades, you can reach EVO level for cheap and also a luxuriest in one car. Its hard to find in good condition, but its not another boring car. It fast, nice look and safe. Cons Expensive to maintain, issues at low miles I was so excited to buy my first car a 2008 audi a4 s-line package for 19000k that had 50000k miles on it. I should've did my research on how exspensive it is to maintain. The engine light came on as soon as i got it, the brakes are already bad, oil pan leaks, and as for interior The passenger seat is manual, the cup holders are in a dumb spot because of middle compartment. No aux cord and no automatic head lightseven tho a 08 and back seat panels fell off on both seats. I love the inside how it looks tho and I think its comfy and big back seat for a small car. Pros Attractive and Dependable Transportation Cons Cup holder and arm rest defects. I love this car. I am happy with my experience as an Audi owner. Fun to drive Cons Terrible reliability and cost to own. This is a great second car to toy around with - if you have money to burn. It's a lot of fun to drive and is really comfortable on longer drives. The AWD system is beyond outstanding in the snow. However, the 2005 - 2008 A4 has a group of known issues and most are not inexpensive fixes. They are potentially destructive things if they fail, too. Maybe you'll get lucky. I hope so.
