Then you can start reading Kindle books on your smartphone, tablet, or computer - no Kindle device required. Really the better question is what isn’t the iPhone? But it’s also a full-blown multimedia player, complete with a dazzling screen for watching videos. And it’s a sensational pocket internet viewer. It shows fully formatted email (with attachments, thank you) and displays entire web pages with fonts and design intact. It’s tricked out with a tilt sensor, a proximity sensor, a light sensor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, a gyroscope, a barometer, and that amazing multitouch screen.Furthermore, it’s a calendar, address book, calculator, alarm clock, ebook reader, stopwatch, podcast player, stock tracker, video viewer, traffic reporter, and weather forecaster. It even stands in for a flashlight, a tape measure, and, with the screen off, a pocket mirror. Thanks to the 2.2 million add-on programs that await there, the iPhone can also be a medical reference, a musical keyboard, a time tracker, a remote control, a sleep monitor, a tip calculator, and more. Plus, the App Store is a portal to thousands of games, with smooth 3D graphics and tilt control.Online, you can find an electronic manual, but it’s free of details, hacks, workarounds, tutorials, humor, and any acknowledgment of the iPhone’s flaws. You can’t easily mark your place, underline, or read it in the bathroom. And if you do have an iPhone 5s or later model, this book assumes you’ve installed iOS 12.1 or later; see Appendix A.)Apple updates the iPhone’s software fairly often, piping in new features, bug fixes, speed-ups, and so on.That’s a lot of tweaks, polishing, and finesse-and a lot to learn. Fortunately, 700 pages of instructions now await you. With over 3 million books in print, David is one of the world’s bestselling how-to authors. SactoTodd 5.0 out of 5 stars I’ve be able to find the answer to several out of the box questions I’d had about my Xr phone running iOS 12.01. And it was very easy to find the answers. Written in nontechnical language that’s easy to follow but very complete. I’ve bought other “GuideBooks” but this is much more detailed and complete. It may take me a long while to finish but it's the most useful tech reference I've ever used and I'm trying to absorb the information a little slowly to avoid overload. At each step so far I have iPhone in hand and try things out. Of course I'm amazed at the complexity of the iPhone and iOS 12 and now I have Pogue's book to see me through. Highly recommended. This guide is well written and consice. It is clearly updated for the new iPhone XS models. I recommend this book for anyone who would like to learn how to maximize their ability to enjoy the myriads of features that come with this engineering marvel, the iPhone XS,Could not even tell me how to block nuisance calls except my contacts, which of course I do not want to block.Easy to read and comprehend. I wore out the previous version for the iPhone 5, and used it for my iPhone 6s, so when I bought the iPhone 8, it was time to upgrade my book. Thank you Mr. Pogue!!!!At nearly 700 pages no detail is left unexamined. I especially liked the explanation of the iPhone camera capabilities.https://www.cocreationsmanager.com/blog/electric-vs-manual-toothbrushes I first bought the de Leon manual which I reviewed as “useless” it’s an 84 page, large type, large spaces between lines work which doesn’t contain one one thousands of the info of this manual. The content seems good but I'm not making the headway I would if I had the book open beside me.This book is so easy to read, beautifully written and so illuminating. It's so good (and amusing) that I found myself reading it far into the night. Just finding out how to stop a thief forcing me to look at the phone (to unlock it with face recognition) is invaluable as well as other brilliant security knowledge. It is packed full of the mind-blowing features the iPhone offers, many of which I had never even dreamed of. Very well-referenced and laid out, it is quick and easy to find specific subjects. If you've shelled out over ?1,000 for an iPhone X then you need to know what it can do. Highest recommendation. An iPhone comes with virtually no documentation, and you will be totally lost without this book. My previous phone was a Nokia 3310, so I don’t think that I would have mastered the main features of my iPhone in one week without this book. Also, please consider that this book describes the iOS 12 operating system, so if you have an older iOS version, this book might be confusing. Otherwise - the full 5 stars. Well done !It can tell me all of the wonderful things that an Iphone can do but does not tell me how to use it as a phone. Nor does it tell me how to put contacts in. Basically it tells me very little as a newbie. This for those already well familiar with using mobile phones. The 13-digit and 10-digit formats both work. Huber 5.0 out of 5 stars Consequently, I read a couple of books proclaiming to be clear to the elderly or dummies, and though I am 84 and intelligent, I came away overwhelmed with with useless technical jargon and none of the basic information I sought. Then I got the Missing Manual and everything fell neatly into place. The book actually explains how to use the features of the Phone and does so in clear language. The information is well organized and complete with clear examples and there is an index that leads the redrew to information he or she might be seeking. This is all that is needed in any basic manual. But the extremely thin, light, sans serif typeface makes reading a chore rather than a pleasure. If it weren't for that major flaw, I'd give this five stars. But for me, reading this is not pleasant, despite the very useful content. It contains a world of useful information. This series is always on my must list. Many people don't really know how to use their phones or computers besides basic functions. The Missing Manual series is an excellent guide to hidden, little known features as well as explaining any changes, additions or things that were removed. Written in plain English with beautiful full color photos of the various screens and menus, this book takes you to power level. It makes things, faster, easier and more fun to do things on your iPhone. Many features are not easily found and will only be discovered with a guide or a subscription to MacWorld or Maclife. You can amaze your family and friends with your new found knowledge. I am always being asked to help someone because they don't know how to use a feature, software or setting on their phones. I'm able to help because of the excellent information found in the Missing Manual books. Grab a copy for your phone, computer or software you regularly use. The tips and tricks will save you time and money. It is also entertaining because the author is naturally funny, something not ordinarily found in computer books. I see many people become frustrated with their device because they won't take the time to learn how to use it. Yes, you can go to the Apple Store, but I would rather do things myself. This book ensures the knowledge to do so.A must-read for new users like myself. I spent my first two hours just skipping around in the book, looking up things that I needed help with. Great index and TOC makes that a breeze. TBH, I only needed help with a few things but kept finding interesting side-reads about handy features that I didn't know the phone had. I'm even more excited about my new phone now. As ever, Pogue does a great job of explaining things concisely but comprehensively in plain English, with lots of helpful power-user tips thrown in. Four-color printing is a welcome and helpful improvement over the Missing Manual series for Mac OS, making the book very inviting. This book is the perfect size, too; not so huge that you won't want to pick it up, but not so thin as to be incomplete. Unless you have a pre-7 iPhone, you should get the newest edition of the book; it covers iOS 13, which runs on iPhone 7 and newer. It offers quick overviews and much deeper info if the reader wants more understanding. It is like levels 101 thru 105 and you pick how much you need to know. Well worth the price.Almost more than you can process in a short amount of time. Find myself referring back to sections and pulling out my phone to practice what it is showing. After reading you could teach a class on the iPhone tips and tricks.Glad we did!I am experienced iPhone user but when I upgraded to an 11pro I wanted somehere to look up the new bits and this book has been great. When I want to do something on the phone, I simply look up the relevant section and follow the easy instructions. I never tried to learn CSS before I have an online website and I always just did trail and error to get what I wanted and never bothered to learn what was happening and why. (A very frustrating way of doing things) Just after reading this book for a few days I now know what's going on. I'm still no expert and it will take a lot more of putting things into practice but I would recommend this book and as a reference too. I'll be looking to see if the author has Javascript next. I can't recommend it enough. CSS does seem overly complicated and not an exact science but I believe I will limit a lot of frustrations with this book.I have made more progress in one day then in the last 3 week. It is comprehensive. Adresses questions you come accross when designing a modern looking website. It is written in plain English unlike many other books. The structure is logic and you handpick things you need. The pitfall of each technique is explained and paired with an uptodate solution. This CSS one maintains the high standard of the series and gives a thorough explanation of CSS with the usual tutorials that one can follow and practice by downloading the files off the Miss website. Thoroughly recommendedIf you then download the 'Missing CD' files you find examples that do work but are different than the text printed in the book. Both can occur if gallstones leave the gallbladder, pass through the cystic duct, and get stuck in the common bile duct. The common bile duct drains the liver and pancreas, and a blockage there can lead to inflammation and infection in both the pancreas and biliary system. However, anyone who cannot tolerate surgery under general anesthesia should not undergo cholecystectomy. People can be split into high and low risk groups using a tool such as the ASA physical status classification system. In this system, people who are ASA categories III, IV, and V are considered high risk for cholecystectomy. In a study by Swahn et al.Surgical incision points are highlighted; the one at top right is barely visible. The gall bladder was removed via the incision at the navel. There is a fourth incision (not shown) on the person's right lower flank, used for draining. All incisions have healed well and the most visible remaining effect of surgery is from the pre-operative hair removal. The 3 abdominal incisions are approximately 6mm, while the fourth incision near the umbilicus is 18mm, each closed with dissolvable sutures. Minor inflammation can be seen surrounding each site due to skin irritation caused by removal of Tegaderm dressings. The laparoscope, an instrument with a video camera and light source at the end, illuminates the abdominal cavity and sends a magnified image from inside the abdomen to a video screen, giving the surgeon a clear view of the organs and tissues. The cystic duct and cystic artery are identified and dissected, then ligated with clips and cut in order to remove the gallbladder. It is usually only considered in patients at very high risk for surgery or other interventions listed below.ERCP is often used to retrieve stones stuck in the common bile duct in patients with gallstone pancreatitis or cholangitis. In this procedure, an endoscope, or small, long thin tube with a camera on the end, is passed through the mouth and down the esophagus. The doctor advances the camera through the stomach and into the first part of the small intestine to reach the opening of the bile duct. While ERCP can be used to remove a specific stone that is causing a blockage to allow drainage, it cannot remove all stones in the gallbladder. Thus, it is not considered a definitive treatment and people with recurrent complications from stones will still likely need a cholecystectomy. This is usually done using guidance from imaging scans to find the right place to insert the tube.Philadelphia, PA.
