M.A.FLICK 1.0 out of 5 stars The more I play with this Camera the more I like it. Pictures are very clear and crisp, wonderful color. The features are beyond what most people will ever use, but they all have there purpose and are GREAT Features. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS::You will have the hang of it in No Time at all. Small Camera Not Made For Big Hands,SORRY but I'm calling that just the way it is. Also Purchase a Good Recharger And Extra Batterys:: Indoor shots using the flash eats-up batterys quick. I have back-up now. I also purchased several cards for this camera, now thats the way to do it. Photos,Videos, special events, cards for everything, hunting, fishing, you name it. All and all, really a good deal and I will come back after I use more of the features and let everyone know how they perform. The first time this happened it was a very important shoot for me. I shot 60 pictures and it dropped every DANG ONE OF THEM!!!!!! SAID IT COULD NOT LOCATE FILE.AAAAHHHHHHHH.I was just SICK and I STILL AM!!!!!!! Anyway when you power up the camera make sure that your camera has found the correct file to store your photos In. Or you will lose everyone of them as I did. I'm still not sure why this happens and it has happened to me several times.AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! Something to do with the memory I'm sure of that, and it is a DEFECT in the Camera itself. I'm going to send this one back for a replacement I purchased the warranty. I'll let everyone know how that adventure goes after I get a new Camera. M.A.FLICK I SHALL RETURN.I absolutely love this thing and have even purchased a few more since to give as gifts. Although I don't take photos as much as I used to this little camera does everything I need when I do want to shoot picture's. One of the things I have noticed with this aging is when the camera sits and the batteries have begun to discharge is it will cause it to have a problem with the lens opening properly. Just don't try to push or pull it. This just indicates the batteries need changed, pretty simple solution. I use this a lot to take close up photos when I sell on eBay. Sometimes they are too good, if that seems wrong then I will try to explain. These new digital cameras pick up more than what we would normally see with our plain vision or in other word every speck of dust or crazing in porcelain is enhanced making it show up and look much worse than what we really need to see. Also sometimes when you are in good lighting and you take a photo of say a nice looking gal who seems to have perfect make-up.Its actually quite funny unless you are wanting that perfect family photo. If you are expecting to take professional photos for something such as the main wedding pics then I would recommend something better however if you are going on vacation and just want an easy to use camera that takes good photos then at this price tit perfect. One thing I did do was purchase larger cards for these but unless you take a whole lot of photos or plan to record a lot then I don't recommend too much space otherwise when you take it to get them printed you'll be there forever. Bottom line, this is inexpensive, practical and a nice little camera to have.I figured I would treat myself to a new camera for Christmas and was looking at the next step up from the Canon point and shoots. I was on Amazon doing comparisons when I found this little surprise. A camera by GE with all of the bells and whistles for how much. I was a bit skeptical but kept following the reviews that kept coming in over the weeks. I bit the bullet and bought the camera last week and I have not been disappointed. I am by no means a camera expert so I am still learning how to use this upgrade from what I am used to. The pictures are amazing and I love the solid feel of this camera. I prefer to have standard batteries in my camera since I can easily replace them with the stock pile I have at my house (little kids toys) but I know that is an issue for others. As someone who uses their camera to take video and pictures of their kids I am really happy with this camera. I have only taken one video as a test and the images were great but I still need to play with the sound option to see if that can be improved. The only other thing I need to get used to is popping open the flash if I think I need it. Not a huge deal and I pretty much do that to begin with now. I took the memory card from my point and shoot and put it into this camera. If you don't have a memory card available you will want to buy one. I was only able to take 3 pictures without a card before the camera said it was full.I've had a little play around and as far as I can tell its perfect for the job, doesn't break the bank but the quality is quite pleasing. It's an anniversary gift so it's hidden away now but I know she will be nothing less than impressed. Add in a brand name that is synonymous with another product category like light bulbs and appliances and taking the camera seriously is even more difficult. Such is the case with the GE X5. There are so many point-and-shoots released each year that brands like GE don't generally show up on my radar because reader interest is low. (The cameras are actually made by a company called General Imaging, but it licenses the GE brand.) But since readers took the time to e-mail me about it, I figured I should check it out.The X5 is capable of taking some nice photos, too, under the right circumstances. Pixel peepers will likely be disappointed, but its photos should be satisfying for many, especially considering the financial investment. It does not compete with a digital SLR, and something like the Canon PowerShot SX130 IS produces better photos (though it costs a little more and doesn't have an EVF). Its shooting performance is slow, too, so if you're considering this for photos of kids or pets, you'll probably want to look elsewhere (and, unfortunately, spend more money). Like most in its class, it's good up through ISO 200; above that you get more noise, softness, and off colors, making photos only suitable for small prints and Web use. Even still, you probably won't want to go above ISO 800. So despite the availability of ISO 1,600 and ISO 3,200 settings, I wouldn't use them. Basically, the more light you have, the better off you'll be. If you do a lot of indoor shooting in dim lighting and don't want to use the flash, I would not buy the X5. The Auto ISO setting actually goes down to ISO 64, which resulted in some very nice photos suitable for 8x10 prints or slightly larger.Center sharpness is fairly good, and the lens is consistent for the most part, softening slightly out at the edges and in the corners. I've seen far worse on more-expensive cameras, though. Fringing can be very bad at times around high-contrast subjects. However, in most of my photos, it was faint enough where it didn't pose a problem and was only visible when photos were viewed at 100 percent on a computer screen.Above that, colors get washed out and dull-looking. White balance outside was spot on, but indoors both the auto and presets were off. There is a manual option that's easy to set, and I recommend using that whenever possible under unnatural light. Exposure is inconsistent, or at least it was on my review sample. One shot would be correct, but then I would get a string of shots that were black or severely underexposed. However, this only seemed to occur when using the camera's aperture priority and auto scene recognition modes. As I could not regularly reproduce the issue and could find no user complaints expressing a similar issue, my guess is that it was just an issue with my review camera.Panning the camera will create judder; that's typical of the video from most compact cameras, though. The zoom lens does function while recording and it has continuous autofocus. The AF is a little slow to respond, but at least it and the lens movement are quiet, barely picked up by the mono microphone. If you need manual focus, though, you're out of luck; the X5 has autofocus only.We delete comments that violate our policy, which we encourage you to read.
