0 out of 5 stars The emphasis of the guide book, understandably, is the more popular destinations, but I was traveling to more remote spots. Nevertheless, a lot of the cultural, historical and handy tips relative to Brazil in general applied no matter what. I went to Iguassu Falls, a couple of the spots in the Pantanal Region, and then to an eco lodge in the Manaus, Amazon area. Some of these were covered in better detail than others. The book fit well enough into my backpack to take along and serve as a handy reference while traveling.It's filled with historical notes and loaded with pictures. As a first book about Brazil it's a great introduction. Its weight (due to color photos), however, means it will stay on the shelf when we travel. Not a backpacker condensed version. Colorful maps, some general travel tips, and recommended hotels and trips are included. It's an honest portrayal of the diverse population and culture.I had difficulty finding accomodations and restaurants in Rio de Janeiro using this guide. I prefer Lonely Planet for Brazil.Easy to read. Contains information about the 2014 World Cup as well as the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, the first ever to be held in South America. We are across the border at the moment and have no way of learning any more about the guide and the actual country. Oh, we did stop at the local consulate. We do not speak Portuguse (I think I murdered the spelling) so we got told it was closed. We are not sure if the consulate was closed or the acquisition of the visa was closed.
