When I measured the spindle runout, it was nominally zero where the spindle was clean. After cleaning up the spindle and the chuck taper, it is now less than 3 mils, down from about 12 but the chuck would not stay but a few drops of super glue fixed that. Apparently CA did not exist back then and epoxy was the fix at the time. I also have learned that there are not only different brands but serious design differences in the rebranded versions. I found 3 different manuals and only one agreed with mine in a very serious way. The others and all other drill presses I have seen, have small bearings or bushings at the top and bottom of the quill. I think this pretty much deals with the issues of side thrust when used as a mill. You couldn't ask for a bearing more suited to side thrust than this. I have another thread going on this topic. The problem following directions in the manual over and over, my chuck keeps falling out. This has cost me quite a bit in having to re-do projects that you think are good and you lift the chuck to move to the next area and it falls out fully spinning and destroying the project. I would give it 5 stars but support is so pathetic I find it difficult as the product is a full product, this includes customer support which very few companies even have a clue that the customer exists. Keep in mind money does dry up when customer service is non-existent. One piece of advice, like most top heavy objects, two people are needed to move it around safely. I substituted a keyless Llambrich JK chuck from Amazon for the included keyed chuck. Virtually no runout. A small plastic “rack” with a magnet for the hex wrenches would have been a welcome bonus. I made one out of wood and double stick tape and added a magnet to the Llambrich wrench as well. Keeps all the adjustment tools handy. However illustrations are good. 2) Needs manual depth stop in addition to electronic one 3) Needs separate switches for work table lights and laser rather than the one sequential switch 4) Plans, or at least dimensions, for a base would have been nice since you have to mount the drill press on something and the average workbench is way too high. No deal breaker but would have been a nice touch 5) Slots on table should be back to front rather than in an “X” pattern. Electronics are sealed but only time will tell how long they will last. Hopefully for a long time. The tool came covered in greasy fingerprints, even inside the protective coverings. There was a little rust, not much but enough to require some effort to remove. The headstock and the laser lights were not even close to alignment. No Allen key was provided to adjust the tile base. There was extra hardware for a part not included. The firmware upgrade cable is 4x too short. Information in the manual is well written but incomplete and inaccurate. Assemble instructions do not even indicate where to install the Chuck Key Holder. The belt change for adjusting RPM isn't that easy to do as the tension is quite high even with the motor housing fully moved to the side. I had had no issues drilling wood, plastic or even micarta but when drilling metal (even light metal with good cutting bits) I've had this thing jam and stop numerous times. Soon as there is moderate resistance it just jams up and stops spinning. I didn't expect an Industrial drill press for the low cost of course, but If I had my time back I would have paid more and opted for something with bigger biceps. If all you intend is to do lighter work then you may very well be happy with this model.
