To get started finding Journey Across Time Early Ages Chapter 13, you are right to find our website which has a comprehensive collection of manuals listed. I went to update my history bookmarks and found a link to Journey Across Time, and so now I'm trying to find out all I can about it. It has some extras online that are really convenient.http://www.completeinvestigations.co.uk/userfiles/ford-mustang-repair-manuals.xml Anyone have any experience with it? TIA Then I had many discussions with my DD and she would like to try the SL as well since she doesn't tend to retain as much history, it's not her thing generally speaking. We have ordered the new text(I looked at it with my rep) and have the activity guide. I really like the online portions and think they add a lot. I think a combination of the two approaches will benefit my DD. But then I also use the Glencoe Life Science along with many literature based books because of their online resources as well. Is geograhy covered some? Thanks? It is amazing. We also have the activity workbook. I am amazed at this book, truely amazed. It begins with a Geograhy handbook to get you ready to understand how to use all the map, diagrams and charts in the book. Then there is a tools for historians section to help you understand how we measure and organize time and how it relates to history. So thirty some pages into the book you get to the first chapter which begins with the geographic map of the area with the places to locate and the people (historical figures) you will meet (perfect timeline pictures) and then the timeline. Each section has using geography skills with all the maps being from National Geographic. I can really see how this will benefit my DD in addition to her SL. I was really worried about the goegraphy component in SL alone. The book also shows where to go to the online resources and incorporates many reading skills like previewing, predictiing, main ideas, and text structure. I also like the critical thinking questions. I am impressed, and textbooks don't usually impress me. Glencoe seems to be really getting it right lately.:) Hope that helps. I bought the Journey Across Time vs. Journey Across Time Ancient Times because the first just adds two sections for the same overall cost. We will use it next year also. I bought the Journey Across Time vs. We will use it next year also.https://www.ziveknihy.sk/audiokniha/dt-v24l1d-manual I wonder if it shows how to outline or anything. I know the newer one has a unit on modern history, but I wonder if the older ones are as nice as the one you have. It has been on back order for 4 months. Both Journey Across Time and Journey Across Time The Early Ages have previous editions from 2006 and 2005 respectively. I can't speak to those editions because I haven't seen them. I chose Journey Across Time because for the same price it adds Unit 6 which covers the French Revolution Revolution and Napoleon forward into 2006 which is actually four chapters.I could actually get the HO text and resell if I decided not to use it, but I covet history books and I wouldn't be able to part with it. I went to update my history bookmarks and found a link to Journey Across Time, and so now I'm trying to find out all I can about it. Anyone have any experience with it? TIA And looking on Amazon, I see two books, one with a pyramid and one with a boat. Different volumes? I looked on the K12 website, but there was no mention of being able to buy it seperate from the course. Can someone tell me where I can purchase this? - thanks!!! And looking on Amazon, I see two books, one with a pyramid and one with a boat. Different volumes? The one with the boat is the same but includes another unit on modern times containing about 4 chapters. At least I think. I looked on the K12 website, but there was no mention of being able to buy it seperate from the course. Can someone tell me where I can purchase this? - thanks!!! There are three volumes in all. JAT looks intriguing. I'm trying to find a middle school history book for next year. We may do HO level 2 Middle ages and I don't really care for the Van Loon book (Story of Mankind), so I'm searching. So, can I purchase this from amazon, and still use the online helps? Do you know if I can see chapter samples online of JAT.It's ISBN 0078750504. The older one is ISBN 0078688736. I've not seen any samples. All laid out and organized. Under the teacher section, there is a literature connection for each unit. I really like it. She wants an all encompassing resource, rather than Mama putting together everything and keeping track of different resources. I wanted the newest edition and that way I can purchase the online version of the book if I so choose as well as the other resources available. You do not need to buy the main online resources. The log in information is in the book. The book will also guide you when you need to go to the online resources and what to view. She wants an all encompassing resource, rather than Mama putting together everything and keeping track of different resources. Can you tell me exactly which link under teacher center will lead me to the literature connection. I couldn't find it. Thanks! We've never used a trad text per say (do use Kingfisher, Usborne) but, dd says having it all in one text (full of info) is easier for her to grasp and going to 3-4 different books. LOL! (easier on me too.) Can you tell me exactly which link under teacher center will lead me to the literature connection. LOL! (easier on me too.) The link from a my previous post had the link to a newer edition of the book and I'm not seeing the lit.The direct link is for the 2004 edition and has the lit. It looks like there are a few differences and I don't know why. I'll be taking advantage of both, though. World History: A Human Odyssey is a high school text, and I think the one most referred to here at WTM forums, often used for 3 years, or as AP support. LoriD. and others have some great posts on how they use it. Next, Western Civ: Brief History, is more high school level, to the Western Civ which is college level. All of the levels I mention are just suggested targets, to be used as you like. That is the one with the pyramid on it and large yellow titling. The Human Odyssey is the one with the boat on it. The college level Western Civ seems to be broken into a two part series also. I have seen in the forums, where someone told the diff between Western Civ and Human Odyssey clearly, but don't remember it. I do see all of these except for the Journey Across Time being sold used a lot, at reasonable prices. I'm putting bits of info together and someone else may have already put this out there, more clearly and better than I, but it appears that there is a huge following for Spielvogel, and I hope that this opens up a resource for younger use, for some. Also, if anyone has guides or aids, home-composed or other, to go with Human Odyssey, I'd love suggestions, but am going to continue to work thru about a thousand pages of the search I did, also. It wasn't one I'd heard of, but I found it for a couple dollars. We have the Note-Taking Guide and Guided Reading workbook. The online helps are ridiculously numerous and there are several editions to the book, so lots of activities to choose from. I'm very pleased that I went this route. I have the Journey Across Time, which is Speilvogel. I chose it because my DD was 9 when we started. It is geared toward middle school. The Journey Across Time The Early Ages is the one with the pyramid. I bought the full version which includes Unit 6 Modern Times and has the ship on the front. As mentioned, World History is also Speilvogel and is geared toward grades 9-12. I will probably use that as well in the next few years, I'm just not sure if I'll use that or the World History Modern Times version in a 20th Century World history approach. I really like all the online materials available. We used Journey Across Time, but discovered textbooks weren't working for us. We went for Oak Meadow (with supplements) and it is a perfect fit. This is our first year hs, so I can't compare to others. We used Journey Across Time, but discovered textbooks weren't working for us. We went for Oak Meadow (with supplements) and it is a perfect fit. This is our first year hs, so I can't compare to others. She doesn't really get into alot of textbook reading, I think its okay for a textbook World History:The Human Odyssey by Spielvogel and The Human Odyssey volumes by Cribb are two different histories. Further, Spielvogel's histories are published on different levels (ms, hs, college), different states requirements, newer co-authored versions in college level. Too many to mention, but I'm struggling to just find and purchase the 1999 Human Odyssey teacher guides, and any other help. The Journey does have lots of easy to find resources, but I kinda wanted the hs level. However, this is my son's first textbook, so maybe the Journey will be more appealing and have easier to find resources. I want to see both, but that gets expensive. World History:The Human Odyssey by Spielvogel and The Human Odyssey volumes by Cribb are two different histories. I want to see both, but that gets expensive. It's not the Spielvogel Human Odyssey, just World History. It has lots of online resources and an affordable teacher's manual. So many choices.I'd like to use Spielvogel as a reference at least, but possibly as a spine. The Journey one, while the most junior one, seems to be used a lot so there are a lot of resource add-ons. I can always just get the 1999 HO for a few bucks, and actually use the Journey text. I re-read posts and see you are doing what I am doing: angsting over HO vs. JAT. Have you seen any of the teacher resources for JAT. Are they pretty good. I scored a musical supplement for HO on Amazon last night, so got excited.but I'm enjoying the chase too much, and losing sight of what may be a better text for my son. You can also visit the websites and Hope that helps! I re-read posts and see you are doing what I am doing: angsting over HO vs. JAT. Have you seen any of the teacher resources for JAT. Once I decided that I wanted to use JAT, I waited too long, and the price went up for used copies. So, I checked out what was available for high school. The online helps are excellent and I decided (since I got them for pennies), to get the Active Reading Guide and Note-Taking Guide. Both are excellent. Does it read easier? THe 2005 World History, with the blue cover and the inner tomb (King Tut?), has a list of teaching helps as long as your arm.so maybe I should give up on finding that 1999 bunch of resources and go on and get this new stuff. THe 2005 World History, with the blue cover and the inner tomb (King Tut?), has a list of teaching helps as long as your arm.so maybe I should give up on finding that 1999 bunch of resources and go on and get this new stuff. I chose World History on a whim, but wouldn't have chosen it if there weren't any online activities. I think it's probably pretty similar to JAT. There is a timeline before each chapter and each sub-chapter. If I needed to finish the book in a year, it would be way too much to process. I imagine it's the same with JAT. These texts just serve as the framework for the rest of our history studies. We add in so many other books that would probably be sufficient on their own. So, why am I spinning my wheels, trying to create a rich program, when it appears this textbook company has got one, all linked up with little videos for every section. Am I making sense? I love history and he does not so much, so I have to set a minimum, then we can debate about the addon enrichment. He happily reads science, tech, and many other areas, but history fiction or non- just does not pull at him. Not sure where my real kid got left by that darn stork. Anyhow, I am thinking this history with the online stuff can be the whole shebang, not a spine.I kinda think all the concepts of curricula are tumbling around in my head and I need to make choices, order and have them in my hot little hands, to put all together. I'm not good at KISS, and that's my life story. Gotta be careful to not overburden this kid. I can always sell the stuff we don't use, I reckon. So, why am I spinning my wheels, trying to create a rich program, when it appears this textbook company has got one, all linked up with little videos for every section. I can always sell the stuff we don't use, I reckon. Especially since history is not his favorite. I remember hating them in school, so maybe dd was intrigued by my insistence that we won't use them. The piles of choices and selections get him distracted, starting and stopping gets emotional.finding a path and holding a steady course is best, for both of us. SO, I have to do really solid research.I got to actually look at the middle school American Journey, formatted and color coded organizational tools similar to the Spielvogel JAT, and running a timeline with US and world. I could compare it to the American Vision, the high school text. This was an extra. Most importantly, I could see huge numbers of pages of JAT and the World History. World History is obviously the name of the current Spielvogel textbook, being printed by Glencoe, that, when owned by three (or just 2) publishers previous to Glencoe, was named Human Odyssey. My young'un really liked all the little cues and notes, so he rules. So, now I'm going to get both histories, and we'll see if the total textbook experience is good or if these are just references. His (and my older kids') experiences with textbooks (no longer a dirty word) included the fact that their ps teachers, to be perfectly fair, never had the time to get over much of the book, not exploring the whole resource. So, my 7th-8th grader.can go into these books as in-depth as he wishes, use all the tangential assignments and resources online that we find, and we'll surf along and see if they turn out to be a reference, a spine, or the whole shebang that he operates himself, mainly. I'm excited. I got to actually look at the middle school American Journey, formatted and color coded organizational tools similar to the Spielvogel JAT, and running a timeline with US and world. I'm excited. I thought I had searched forward and backward but couldn't get anything but a TOC when I was researching JAT. And so the Glencoe World History is just an updated Human Odyssey. I use the 2003 edition. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I'm more and more amazed at all those resources and the clever names on the stop and think spots, etc., but then I started second guessing, as I look at the little quizzes and flash cards they generate, it started looking so easy,.but since I'm doing this in one year, and it is a massive amount of info, and I want him to pretty much self-direct (all those stop and think and review things can be cues for note-taking, verbal check with me, etc.) that the younger version will get well-covered, vs.He reads everything, but, like me, his eyes go crossed, when he is forced to read for anything but pleasure. At one point I thought I'd have to find books in graphic novel form. What gave me pause was when I saw the Amazon age range on the book I kinda hit the brakes, but I'm going to stand resolute with my decision. The resources are cheapest at the Glencoe site, and I'm not sure I'll find the book much cheaper. Do you have a good used curric or used book site, besides here? The descriptions of the old Human Odyssey and the World History are word for word. The National Geographic authorship gets top billing, of course, and I'd love to read somwhere more about how Prof. I wonder if the original publisher owns the rights.interesting. The online references and links alone are pretty nice, and I can't make another hands-on subject, and he wants to do stuff himself.all that color in the younger JAT can be coded and cued for certain action, and he'll get into creating that. But I can't be sure till we try it, I reckon. E-mailing me the results of a quiz, now that is pretty easy to manage. I can check on him from the downstairs computer? Goofy. For history, which is still happening, I really like the internet linking, for all those amazing footages, and recreations, too. I use the www.glencoe.com and in the top left click on your state and subject and click on teacher. They just scroll down to find your books. You can also pick a different state if you want to compare books commonly used. Also, don't forget to looks at things like whether they have Study Central, Spotlight videos are really cool, and in motion animations help with progressions. I'm pretty sure all have the self quizzes. Science ones add virtual labs and BrainPop videos. Okay, ordering this morning, no more pambying around on Amazon trying to save a couple bucks. Wonder if I'll get socked wish shipping? Oh, well. Forgot to ask about shipping. L I do like the two guides I bought. I was concerned that the text could be too much info, so I thought the guides would pull that together. The Note-Taking Guide she fills out as she's reading a section. There's key vocab, outlines, and some filling out diagrams (Venn and graphic organizers). The Reading Essentials is just comprehension questions after you read a paragraph or two. I probably wouldn't have her use it, but so far I find the questions to be good. I think the Va. volumes are two years later publishing.the helping sites only offered one extra item: a document and people timeline that is interactive (pops open when you want to dig deeper) that was kinda neat. The second extra added to Virginia simply seemed to lead to cross-referencing with SOLs, one of the primary reasons I am hsing. It may bog my son down, but I'm hoping he'll explore it a lot, one of the reasons I'm getting the younger material, hoping my reasoning is sound. I am amazed at the amount of info out there, for free. Which guides are worth purchasing. How about the activity workbook TE. I haaaate ordering something that sounds essential and it turns out to be repeated elsewhere.if the wraparound TE has all the answers, that's enough. But if that is just obvious stuff, and the individual answer booklets are more useful, I can do that instead. Or do I need it all. Help. My timing is so off, but I am not going to sync with the public school year, but work with our family rhythms, instead. I have the TE for that too, convenience for me with so many kids. I don't have the TE of the Journey Across Time but do have the activity guide I think it is and the TE for that. I have my SL materials and the SOTW AG and tests so that is enough for me there. I might buy it if I can find it for a good deal used. I like that their science TE contains pacing and lists of all the activies to go with different sections, labs, and lots of additional resources that I have found to come in handy for each chapter. I don't have or need it for anything else. I just have those two guides (Note-Taking, Reading Essentials), and they're pretty simple, even at the high school level. We do the section wrap-ups orally and having the answers help me further the discussion on things that I think she should really understand.
