Today the high temp in the California High Desert is going to be about 103 (about 10 relative humidity), I am using it with the oscillation feature to keep cool air blowing on me while I am working on my truck making the process bearable in my hot garage. As for the leaking that others complained about, I have only had the issue if I had it off-level as I did on the fishing trip I mentioned. If you take the screw out of the screen, lift it up, you will see how the water flows down the pad. If the unit is leaning slightly back, it's possible the water can transfer from the pad to the plastic case and then leak out. You may think your floor is level, but I can put a level to a lot of floors and it will show off level. Solution is to just put something under the rear wheels to elevate the rear of the unit a little, then gravity will do the rest. If you have been using hard water, the holes may plug up in the trough at the top of the pad, so you'll need to clean those holes periodically. If the water pump fails, it's just a simple fountain pump you can buy at the same place. I use a surge protector because it does have electronics and a power surge from the grid can blow it out. Lastly, you can't use it in a closed up house or room. You have to have two windows open at least on opposite sides of the room for some air flow. If you don't, then all you will do is build up humidity in the room, and it will quit being effective. If the wind isn't blowing to provide a natural air flow, then I will use one of those window fans pointed out in a window in another part of the house. We tilt the pan and slide it under the side of the cooler body, under the fill port. The pan will stay cocked at about a 45 degree upwards angle. This will catch any spills as you fill. No funnel is needed with this method. We don't use or need a funnel because using one is a hassle. A funnel to fill will need a hose attached to the bottom of the funnel. It is still a box on wheels though so don't expect precision driving or anything. BAD: -The warning beep is.The manual says this but I was not prepared for it. I sleep like the dead and this beep brought me out of sleep(I didn't fill it before going to bed). It is high pitched and loud. I guess it does what it is supposed to do, it alerts you to low water and it definitely motivates you to get up and either turn it off or fill it. I wish it had an auto shut off function instead, but as long as I fill it before bed, it isn't a huge issue. Trust me, you will only let the beep go off like twice, and then you will check it before you turn it on. To the people having issues: -If you don't know what a swamp cooler is, don't buy this. It probably isn't right for your area. -If it leaks, make sure it is level, don't over fill it, and don't move it when it is full. I put mine on a storage tub because I want it to blow on my bed, but my bed was too high. I filled it full and some water leaked because it wasn't level. When I moved it into another room that I was doing some cleaning and organizing, it was too full and I could hear it sloshing around and a bit of water came out. -It will not bring a 120 degrees down to 80. It will maintain a 80 degree, and it will cool 120 degrees down to about 100. When I turn it on in the morning it will keep my bedroom cool through out the day, but if I turn it on at 4 pm when it is baking hot outside and stuffy and hot inside, it won't cool off the bedroom until about 9 at night. It isn't magic and it can only do so much.The unit could operate on high for about 8 hours before it started beeping to let me know the water levels were low (perhaps 10-12 before this would happen running on medium). It's fairly light and easy to roll around which is nice. The construction feels very flimsy though. I never quite figured out when or why this would seem to periodically happen. I ended up putting a wash cloth under the area that was discharging this small amount of water. My final gripe is that there is no clearly evident way to clean the water holding tank area.
