The more I’ve used this vacuum the more I’ve grown to hate it. About a month into using it, I noticed the “ball” on the vacuum head leaving scuff marks all over the hardwood. I tried cleaning it many times but that didn’t improve anything. So basically anytime I vacuum the hardwood, I then have to mop it to remove the scuff marks. (see photo) Also, when vacuuming our rugs, fibers seem to start to escape through the ball joint and never get sucked up. Since I was always switching to the old upright's hose to clean under cabinets, dog beds, steps, corner cobwebs, I started thinking a canister vac might save alot of time after my husband broke the not-so-old upright. It's soooo light to move around rather than the heavy upright that I used to have to pick up to carefully vacuum all the fringed rugs we have (I inherited them; if YOU have a choice, buy non-fringed rugs!) and, with the Animal, I just push the button to turn off the brushhead and run the turbine head right over that fringe. Oh, and picks up an amazing amount of dirt along with the doghair. The canister really does follow you around very easily (heels better than my dogs lol) and does not fall over--I forget it's there and take it around corners and over rugs without any tipping. The other included attachments are a crevice tool which can slide a brush down for gentler pickup but it's too big to fit under the fridge or freezer, and a stair element which works great on the four carpeted steps up to our garage. The tube part of the handle adjusts easily to different heights and the turbine head has a Dyson ball-type joint where it joins the tube; it can get extremely flat and turns every which way, allowing me to clean under furniture and cabinet edges that I used to have to dust mop after I vacuumed. Another huge plus for me is very little bending is needed with this vac. I have a bad back and am tall so I love being able to turn it on and off and retract the cord with my foot and turn off the brushhead at the handle. No more bending over to switch from bare floor to low rug to high rug to hose. What could be better. Well, of course, the price be better (lower) but I think how easy and fast it is to have a great cleaning job and it's worth it. The tube and handle fit awkardly onto the canister so right now I just prop it up in the closet and will get a vacuum hose holder to hang it securely. The cord could be longer but I wouldn't trade a longer cord for non-retracting that I have to wind myself. There could have been more attachments included, again for the price, as I bought the extra Home Cleaning Kit (see below). The doghair sticks to the Turbine Head and tube but I wiped it down with some anti-static spray as someone recommended and that helps a bunch. The canister could hold more and I've read other complaints about emptying bagless vacs but that's not specific to the Dyson anymore and you just have to use common sense to be empty it in a tall garbage can. If you have a zillion carpeted stairs, the included stair attachment is perhaps small (I'm not familiar with other stair attachments) and could take awhile. I wanted the (not included) Home Cleaning Kit primarily for the Multi-Angle Brush to clean my high bookshelves and cabinet tops without a stepladder and many dustrags. The crevice tool brush does a good job on dusting but the Soft Brush is wider and cleans in a keyboard in one swipe. The Stiff Bristle brush I haven't had to use yet but wait until we're back from the spring cattle roundup and have to clean that muddy truck. This vac does several jobs (vacuuming, dusting, dust mopping) in one fell swoop so I get cleaning chores done faster and easier. Inspect the internal hose for blockages and remove them as needed. Flip the device, remove the red C clip and the soleplate, and clear any stuck debris. Remove and check the hose and hose inlet for blockages or damage. Check your filter to determine if it needs washing or to see if the machine is blocked. Turn the cleaner head over so you can see the soleplate. Remove the soleplate and clear any hair, debris, or any other object that could be causing blockage from around the brush bar. Also check the cleaner head channel and lower duct for additional potential blockages. After the three lugs have been located, align the three lugs on the soleplate with the three slots in the base of the cleaner head. Pivot the soleplate to return it to its original position until it clicks into place. To secure the soleplate, press down on the plate and secure the dials on the top of the cleaner head by turning them clockwise until they click. After this, lie the machine on its back. Attach the cleaner head by aligning the connection plug pins on the cleaner head with the twin-block connection slots available directly above the airway on the ball. After this, push firmly until the cleaner head clicks into place. To ensure that these steps solved the issue, turn on the vacuum and test it. Then tilt the machine backward to a 45 degree angle. The black forward lock button must be held down simultaneously, otherwise the valve carriage will not move. Pivot this section upwards until it clicks into place. Release the black button once the valve pipe carriage is moved up into place. The machine should now stand upright. Check the circuit breakers, or fuses and, if it has tripped a circuit breaker or blown a fuse, simply re-set the breaker, or replace the fuse, and switch the vacuum on again. If it continues to happen, you may have too many appliances on the same circuit so unplug some and try again. If so, that could easily be the problem since this could cause the vacuum to have trouble turning on. To fix this problem, replace the cord. When doing this, make sure the correct wires are attached to the correct terminals before plugging the vacuum cleaner back in and switching it on. I can’t find it It removes the same way, though. I think it has something to do with the hose that goes from the floor head to the canister. Now I have no suctionn from the floor only the hose. My problem - the hose won't move on its own. Also it is possible on most newer models to vent the exhaust entirely outside, even with the unit inside the living quarters.The cylinder type lacked wheels, and instead the vacuum cleaner floated on its exhaust, operating as a hovercraft, although this is not true of the earliest models. They had a rotating hose with the intention being that the user would place the unit in the center of the room, and work around the cleaner. Introduced in 1954, they are collectible, and are easily identified by their spherical shape. But they remain an interesting machine; restored, they work well in homes with many hardwood floors.These Constellations route all of the exhaust under the vacuum using a different airfoil. The updated design is quiet even by modern standards, particularly on carpet as it muffles the sound. These models float on carpet or bare floor—although on hard flooring, the exhaust air tends to scatter any fluff or debris around. Changes include a HEPA filtration bag, a 12-amp motor, a turbine-powered brush roll, and a redesigned version of the handle. This same model was marketed in the UK under the Maytag brand as the Satellite because of licensing restrictions. It was sold from 2006 to 2009.A fan driven by an electric motor (often a universal motor ) reduces the pressure inside the machine. Atmospheric pressure then pushes the air through the carpet and into the nozzle, and so the dust is literally pushed into the bag.This can cause health problems since the operator ends up inhaling respirable dust, which is also redeposited into the area being cleaned. There are several methods manufacturers use to control this problem, some of which may be combined together in a single appliance. Typically a filter is positioned so that the incoming air passes through it before it reaches the motor, and then the filtered air passes through the motor for cooling purposes. Some other designs use a completely separate air intake for cooling.An ultra-efficient air filter will immediately clog up and become ineffective during everyday use, and practical filters are a compromise between filtering effectiveness and restriction of airflow. One way to sidestep this problem is to exhaust partially filtered air to the outdoors, which is a design feature of some central vacuum systems.
