Quant itative Fit Tes ting (QNFT) can be cond ucted using a 3M TM Fit Test Adapter 601 and 42 CF R 84 P100 f ilters such as the 3M T M P100 Part iculate Fi lters 2091 or 709 3. Qualitat ive Fit Testing (QLFT ) with the 3M TM Qualit ative Fit Test Appa ratus FT-10 or FT -30 can be con ducte d using any of the NI OSH ap proved 42 CFR 84 Par ticul ate filte rs. IN SP ECT IO N, CLE AN IN G A ND ST OR AGE Inspection Procedure This r espirator must be i nspected b efore each use to en sure it i s in good operating condition. Any damaged or defectiv e parts must be replaced before use. The followi ng procedur e can be used as a guidelin e. Ex amine the in halation valve s for signs of distorti on, crac king or tear ing. 2. Check tha t the headstra ps are intact a nd have good el asticity. 3. Exami ne all plasti c pa rts and gaske ts f or signs of crack ing or fatigu ing and repla ce i f ne cessary. 4. Remove the exhalatio n val ve co ver a nd ex amine the exhalation valve and seat for signs of dirt, dist ortion, crack s or tea rs. 5. Re pla ce th e v al ve if necessary. Secure the valve cov er pr ior to us e. (Fig. 18) Examine the lens for signs of cracki ng or oth er damage. Replace if neces sary. Repla ce worn or de teriorate d parts with new par ts. 3M TM Lens 7884 The lens should be inspected for cracking or crazing. Replace if necessary. Replace as follows: Remove two screws on eith er side of lens with a Phillips scr ewdriver, remove th e t op and bottom lens frame and remove the lens. To reassemb le, fir st alig n the center of the lens with th e cente rline o f the facepiec e. The center of the lens is mar ked by two small lines, one at the top center and s econd at the bottom cente r of the lens. Pla ce the lens into the facepiece and then reatta ch the lens fra me. Replace the two center scre ws and tighte n. 3M TM Exhalation Valve Cover 7918 and Exhalation Valve 7283 Remo ve the 3M TM Exhalation Valve 7918 cove r by lifti ng out on the two top prongs on either side of the center openin g an d sl iding down. Remove the exhalation val ve b y gr asping and pulling on the edges of the valve. R eplac e th e val ve i f it is wa rped, dis tort ed, c ut, split or if it wil l not sea l tig htly on t he v alve seat. Replace by pushing the valve onto the exhalation valve post. 3M TM Speakin g Diaphragm Kit 7895 Remo ve the nose c up. Us ing the diaph ragm r emoval tool, t urn di aphra gm reta ining ring c ounter cloc kwise an d r emove. Pu sh diaph ragm asse mbly out o f the face piece fr om undern eath usi ng the era ser end of a pencil or a simil ar obj ect. Check the speaking diaphr agm ga sket f or dama ge or deform ation. To replace the diaph ragm, follow the steps in reverse. N o t e: The gril l pattern wi th deep ind entation in the center should be v isible from inside the respirator. 3M TM Removable DIN C onnector 7886 Hold the inside part of the connecto r secure, gra sp the outside of the connec tor and twist c ounter clock wise to remove. To re place the connec tor, press the inne r section into the fa cepiece until th e e nd of the threads are flush with th e facepi ece exter ior, the n screw on the outer p iece by turning clockwis e. 3M TM Inhalation Valves 7282 Grasp the edges of the valve and pull away from the plastic post. Replace if the valve is distorted, cut, split or can not be sealed on the valve seat. If the valve seat is damaged, repla ce the 3M 7886. 3M TM A ir Inlet Gasket 7999 Remove th e gasket f rom the air inlet ope ning base. Replace t he gasket if it is warped, dist orted, cut, split or cannot be reas sembled into the air inlet. To rep lace, position the gask et so the small cu t-out on the gasket is poi nting tow ard the le ns. Push the gask et groove onto the plastic bar and s eat the g asket. 3M TM Inha lation Valve Gaskets 7887 Remove the gaskets from each side of the facepiece. Replace the gaskets if t hey are warpe d, distorted, cut or split. Replace one gasket on each side of the facepi ece. Remove the nose cup valves if they become warped, torn or otherwise damaged. Re place the valves in t he nose cup such that the post points awa y fr om the nose. 3M TM Cartridge Holder Gasket Replace 3M TM 789 1 Cartridg e Holder if gasket is warped, distorte d, cracked or split. 3M TM Inhalat ion Port Gasket Replacement 6895 Replace if gas ket is warped, distorted, cracked or split. Dave 4.0 out of 5 stars My heads on the larger side. I don't have a wide nose or wide face but a little long maybe - just average all around. I got the medium mask, thinking it would be on the small side. What info I found said it fit 80-90 of people. It's awkward at first but then you realize it fits fine. The way it cups your chin is annoying, but necessary. I'm just used to half face respirators, that's all. Straps are great, they adjust fast. To get it off you release the bottom straps tilting the tabs upward and slide it up off your face. So far I haven't had any issue with my hair getting caught in it. The rubber doesn't grab, that's good. Head piece is comfortable. The nose cup doesn't sit flush to sides of my nose, kinda bummed on that. No fogging so far but only used in hot temps. Like on a trumpet spit valave,- push valve open and blow. Not an easy mask to do a pressure check with. You have to put your finger nail behind the top of the nose guard, pull outward and slide up to remove. This will tell you if its a good fit or not. Then (even with mask still on) slide the cover back on and click into place. I have long chops and a goatee. Using the p100 pancake filters allows enough flow to be the path of least resistance. Dont be afraid to wear it firm to your face. Great range of view. The carrying bag is great for lining a small trash can and offers little protection for the helmet. Many similar ones come with a much needed case. A bag isn't going to do much if it's with you other equipment in a truck. It doesn't even fit properly or close up to keep dust etc out of the bag. It wasn't even packaged at all. It was sent in the flimsy shelf stock box. They didn't even bother putting tape on the lid. It was obvious that it had been opened, losing the paperwork and extra lens protector. I know this because of the condition of the lid. My co-worker's have bought them before and they all came with it. 3M also answered an email saying they did. So thankfully I had a protector to use for it. I needed it asap or would've made a real stink about that level of sloppiness and returned it out of principle. It had a cover on the lens and that saved it from being damaged as it seem to have fallen out at some point. That much money for plastic and rubber, surely they can afford a piece of tape. A box would be nice as the postal service (to my knowledge) still provides them for free if you use their services - especially since the Postal Service is who delivered it to my mailbox directly.I used to certify gas masks for military use, and this mask is built well. The mask fits both me and my wife (ordered the 402, medium size). The filters lock into place very securely. Zero issues with any seals and the pressure test assured this. Side note: if you're unsure of what filters to get, just get the 3M 60923 filters. They protect against almost anything you'll ever come into contact with in a home setting. I use them for pesticide, painting, sanding, ect.I also suggest getting some Tyvek 400 suits with hood and booties for complete protection.After about 2 weeks of use the right side just fell off rendering the mask completely useless. Tried putting it back together since it didn’t break but can’t get it tight enough to stay in place, keeps falling off and it’s frustrating because I really need it for work because of how dusty the work environment is.Note: I don't use this as a respirator during the application of spray foam, because I like my lungs. I only use this during cleanup after most of the fumes have been vented out. I really wish I would have had this 8 years ago when I started up. I'd always used the half mask, because I thought the full mask units would be hot, sweaty, and fog up. Was I ever wrong about that. It's much more comfortable than the 3M half masks and it keeps the foam dust out of your eyes. Something that the half mask and safety glasses fail to do every time. It also seals better than the half masks and doesn't slide around on your face.It is very easy to put on and to pull down the 6 straps to get it nice and secure. If you've never worn a facemask and are concerned what your size is, try to find one locally to try on first. You should be able to put your hand over the exhaust flap (taking off the cover) and exhale slowly and feel the mask lift forward as its pressurized, without hearing or feeling any leaks. I also really like the straps they are very soft (yet strong) and comfortable, and the back plate it uses is much more comfortable then most masks there. It stays reasonably cool, it's obviously going to get a little warm with a face mask on but I've never had to take it off because of it. Likewise I don't really have a problem with sweat or fog building up inside of it. It obviously works great for all of those duties and have never had a single issue with it. If you get paint or and chemical on it the included scotchguard treatment beads it up and it rolls off no problem. I use primarily 6001, p95, and p100 filter cartridges with this and it works well. I definitely recommend this to anyone in need of a good respirator and want or require the additional benefit of eye protection and a full face mask. It's not really a con because I don't think any face mask could properly seal, but just to note, you cannot wear prescription eyeglasses with this on. However they do sell spectacle kits FF-400-20 that mount glasses on your nose cuff. They will not stay tight, keep loosening on their own (especially the bottom 2 straps). I had upgraded from an earlier model of respirator where I had no problem., There is no apparent fix to this defect - that being the ribs of the straps are not robust enough to keep a hold. Comfortable, easier to breathe through than a disposable N95 mask (with the correct filters), and full face protection of course.
